Hideous Heat
No cloud bank looming overhead
the sun blazes, the earth shrivels
and the heat burns away
every trace of beneficence
I wake up during the nights
soaked with sweat and swelter
Yet there is a mood of longing
in this malodorous chamber
Across the strip of melting asphalt
beyond the shades of sienna
The horizon becomes brilliant
With an infernal orange luster
The Western winds along with dust
carry the redolent perfume
with a dark and florid odor
But the most dangerous of all
is the scent of an incandescing body
triumphing over this atmosphere
In the visions full of fragrance
sensations drowned in golden radiance
The world that comes to me slowly
is uninhibited, Devil’s motley
Succumbing to the sultry heat
Swirling in a narcotic daze -
magnetized by the glittering
Walls fall apart, desires blaze
And our skins do the talking
If only - you were alongside me
We would celebrate this miasma
Of vicious scorch and frantic steam
With a long insatiable kiss?
